PAST EVENTS March 29 DUE EAST in NYC for NYU Composer's Collective We will perform a program of brand new works by the NYU Graduate Composer's collective, First Performance. This concert will be held at the Tenri Cultural Institute, at 8PM. April 5 World Premiere Performance of Alexis Bacon's Cowboy Song A new work for solo percussionist and tape by the very talented electroacoustic music composer, Alexis Bacon. Alexis won the SEAMUS prize, and this performance will be held at this year's SEAMUS festival in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah. I am teaming up with my dear friend, Brazilian composer Alexandre Lunsqui and a Brazilian pianist, Rei Nakamura, to give recitals of all contemporary music by Brazilian composers. We will work in Freiburg, Saarbrucken, and Luxembourg. December 2 Brazilian Music Duo Concert in Luxembourg August 13th DUE EAST @ UNESP in São Paulo, Brazil. DUE EAST will perform a recital and give workshops for percussion and flute at the State University of São Paulo, hosted by Carlos Stasi. August 8-10 DUE EAST Residency in Campinas, Brazil @ UNICAMP. DUE EAST will give a recital, percussion and flute masterclasses, two composer workshops at the University of Campinas. May 20th, DUE EAST w/ Composer's Concordance, NYC DUE EAST will premiere a new work written for the duo by New York composer, Patrick Hardish. Hardish is one of the founding members of the NYC composer collective, Composer's Concordance. May 15th, DUE EAST @ Princeton University DUE EAST will perform John Supko's Littoral at Princeton University. Supko, a current doctoral student at Princeton, wrote the work for DUE EAST. The piece includes surround-sound audio and deals with themes and texts about the ocean and its part in human travels and dramas. April 9th, DUE EAST @ NIU DUE EAST will head to Northern Illinois University to perform a full recital of music specifically written for the duo. 8PM Free Admission April 11th, Doug Perkins, solo recital @ NIU Doug Perkins comes to NIU for a short-term residency, April 9-11. On the evening of the 11th, Perkins will a play a solo recital, including Takemitsu's Rain Tree, accompanied by Matthew Duvall and myself. April 7th, Takemitsu's Rain Tree @ University of Chicago I will team up with percussionists Matthew Duvall and Doug Perkins for an exciting performance of Takemitsu's Rain Tree. March 24th, DUE EAST @ Tenri Cultural Institute DUE EAST gives full recital at the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York City. Three of the four works on the program were written expressly for DUE EAST, by Lunsqui, Soper, Harchanko and Supko. March 10 DUE EAST @ Lewis and Clark An evening performance of works by Lunsqui, Harchanko, Soper and Supko. Evans Auditorium, 7:30PM. March 8-9 DUE EAST @ Western Oregon University Two-day residency at WOU, performing music by WOU composer, Joseph Harchanko. Activities will also include masterclasses and student composer readings. March 6th, DUE EAST @ Southern Oregon University DUE EAST performs the music of Joe Harchanko, Alexandre Lunsqui, Kate Soper and John Supko. June 1 Xenakis's Pleiades w/ So Percussion @ Spoleto Festival May 16-28th China Tour w/ Present Music I'll be performing in Shanghai and Beijing with this excellent group from Milwaukee. April 29th Solo Berimbau @ Princeton University I'm looking forward to premiering a new work by Oscar Bettison for the berimbau that promises to involve a pre-recorded berimbau choir controlled in MAX/MSP. April 17th NIU Latin Jazz Ensemble This concert will feature original compositions and arrangements from both Brazilian and Cuban popular genres. We will once again be joined by guest artist, N. Scott Robinson. April 16 NIU Percussion Ensemble This concert will feature a variety of percussive world musics, including a newly commissioned work for berimbau ensemble by Chicago-based composer, D. Bayne. This concert also features guest percussion artist, N. Scott Robinson. March 19th Berimbau Clinic @ Illinois Day of Percussion I will be giving a clinic and performance at the Illinois Day of Percussion, to be held at Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville, IL. February 18th Due East @ Columbia University (NYC) Due East has commissioned and will be premiering a new composition by Brazilian Composer, Alexandre Lunsqui. The work, Ligare, features an idiosyncratic use of some typical instruments and rhythmic elements from Brazilian popular musics. |
