Called "a fine percussionist" in The New York Times, soloist Greg Beyer specializes in repertoire that places non-western instruments into the context of contemporary musical thought. Second-prize winner of the 2002 Geneva International Music Competition, Beyer has given performances and masterclasses throughout the United States, Europe, China and South America.
Of primary importance to him is his project, Arcomusical - an endeavor involving ethnomusicological research on the berimbau and other related musical bows, and active composition and commission of new works for these ancient instruments. For his own compositions in this regard, Beyer has garnered awards from both ASCAP and SEAMUS.
As a chamber musician, Beyer has performed and/or recorded with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Speculum Musicae, So Percussion, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, NewBand, Sequitur, Absolute Ensemble, and the S.E.M. Ensemble.
Beyer is a founding member of DUE EAST, the percussion and flute duo dedicated to the advancement of virtuosic chamber music by young emerging composers.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!
Here are a details regarding a few projects I'll be involved with over the summer:
1. I will be joining Chicago's Third Coast Percussion on May 1st for an exciting performance of the Wolfgang Rihm sextet, "Tutuguri VI." at the University of Chicago.
2. I'll be joining Chicago's Dal Niente on June 5th, performing a program of new French music by Grisey and Hurel, among others. I'm terribly excited to be joining my friend and colleague, pianist Mabel Kwan, to perform Philippe Hurel's virtuosic duo, "In Memoriam, Gerard Grisey."
Check out the review from the dal Niente performance!
3. I'm part of an incredible project taking place on NYC's annual "Make Music" event on Monday, June 21. My friend and colleague, Doug Perkins, has spearheaded an effort to perform Iannis Xenakis' "Persephassa", his famous sextet from 1968, on Central Park Lake with the percussionists placed either on the shoreline or on boats placed out in the lake. The audience will also be on boats moving through the lake as we perform. As part of a whole festival of Xenakis in the Park that day, it will surely be an event to remember.
